In June, we took on another project in the scenic Žďárské vrchy (Žďár Hills), specifically in the village of Pustá Rybná, located in the Vysočina Region. Our task was to safely remove dead branches from two mature trees – a pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) and a Norway maple (Acer platanoides) – both of which were growing directly above residential buildings. The branches were in poor condition and posed a risk of damaging the roofs – in some cases, these were large, heavy limbs that needed to be removed carefully and safely.
How the Tree Climbing Operation Was Carried Out
Our team on site consisted of three people – two certified tree climbers working in the canopy and one ground worker managing the work zone, ensuring the safety of bystanders and gathering branches into piles. The entire area was securely cordoned off to prevent unauthorized access and ensure public safety.
We used rope climbing techniques – the ropes were installed using a throw bag and line, which we tossed over the main structural branches high in the canopy. Once the ropes were safely anchored and tested for load-bearing capacity, we began the ascent. From our elevated position, it quickly became clear that there were far more dead branches than initially visible from the ground.
Some limbs were rigged and lowered carefully to avoid any damage to the roofs or nearby structures. The work was carried out with precision and maximum care for the health of the trees – our goal is always to preserve the vitality of trees, even when intervention is necessary.
Unexpected Challenges? We’re Ready
During the operation, we discovered a hornet’s nest high in the oak’s canopy. Fortunately, it was located outside our working zone, so we were able to proceed without interruption. The entire job took about six hours on ropes, during which we removed all dangerous limbs threatening the buildings and surroundings.
